assault on former U.S. Senator Martha McSally of Arizona.
The incident unfolded as McSally was engaging in her routine jog along the picturesque Missouri River in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
In a Facebook post, McSally asserted, «You picked the wrong target,» as she shared the details of the harrowing Wednesday morning assault through a heartfelt video.
According to her account, a man stealthily approached her from behind, subjecting her to unwarranted advances.
Undeterred, McSally summoned her inner strength and successfully fended off the assailant.
In a display of remarkable courage, she pursued the aggressor into a wooded area at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park, wasting no time in alerting the local authorities. Despite momentarily losing sight of the man, meticulous investigative efforts, including the use of video surveillance, culminated in the identification and subsequent arrest of the 25-year-old suspect.
The video shared by McSally also revealed the emotional toll of the assault, as it resurfaced painful memories of past encounters with sexual abuse.
With resilience in her voice, she emphasized her reaction, declaring, «I took my power back. He tried to take power from me, but I turned the tables on him, and he found himself running away from me instead of the other way around.»
