Avery joined Balyasny's London office as a portfolio manager this week. He's a delta one specialist, and it's understood that he's already building out a delta one team.
Avery's team is thought to include Max Witcher, a delta one trader who joined from LMR and Chris Donaghey, who joined from JPMorgan as a sub-portfolio manager. Both joined in September. Avery is thought to be looking for an additional three to five analysts.
Avery, who is now aged around 35, became a managing director at Goldman Sachs in 2015 when he was only 28-years-old. He left for Millennium in 2020 before handing in his resignation there in March 2024.
Neither Balyasny nor Avery responded to a request to comment for this article. It's understood that Avery ran around $1bn at Millennium and that his team will have a similar allocation of assets at BAM. BAM founder Dimitry Balyasny said this summer that rather than wanting portfolio managers who can manage a few hundred million dollars, the biggest funds now want people who can manage a few billion instead.
