Recently, Sunita Williams, who has been stuck in space with partner Barry «Butch» Wilmore since June, celebrated the holidays with some other space travellers on board the ISS, as reported by E!News.
In a recent Instagram photo, NASA wrote, «Another day, another sleigh,» depicting Williams and American astronaut Don Pettit grinning while donning red Santa hats. Don Pettit and Suni Williams, Expedition 72 flight engineer and commander, pose for a fun holiday season portrait while speaking on a ham radio inside the International Space Station’s Columbus laboratory module.
Despite the fact that the space travellers appear to be cheerful in the December 16 photo, the holly jolly image sparked a significant query among those who followed Williams and Wilmore's return trip.
After spending more than six months in orbit, how did they manage to obtain Christmas clothing? As one user commented, «Where did the Santa hats come from if they’ve been stuck up there for months and only planned a short trip? Seems an odd unnecessary to have on hand…» Another wondered, «8 day mission, happened to have Santa hats.»
