Cara Palmer, Co-lead author and assistant professor as well as the director of the Sleep and Development Lab at Montana State University in Bozeman, said: “We have discovered that all types of sleep loss which include completely deprived of sleep, loss of sleep partially, fragmentation of sleep, have led to changes in emotional states. The strongest effect seen on a consistent basis was that loss of sleep diminished positive state of mind. Moreover sleep loss led to increasing feelings of apprehension. She also concluded that at the time of experiencing of emotional situations in life, sleep deprived people responded differently than those who have got adequate amount of sleep and rest.”
She further added: ‘ More particularly, those who were sleep deprived, reported to be feeling less fervour, experiencing muted emotional reactions.”
According to the US centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults who are aged above 18 years require at least seven hours of good sleep during nighttime to be healthy. When they get less sleep than that, the effects can be unfavourable.
Research has shown links between sleep deprivation and risks of cardiac disease, dementia, obesity, and other disorders involving mood and mental health.
A 2022 study has come up with the results that around 1 in 10 adults are depriving themselves of two or more sleep hours every night, with over 30% of the adults caught up in sleep debt.
Jo Bower, a lecturer at the University of East Anglia in Norwich and the co-lead author of the study has stated: “Individuals are not getting the amount of sleep that
