Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman experienced the daily commute of millions of Mumbaikars on Saturday, taking a ride on the city's iconic local train.
Sharing pictures of her journey from Ghatkopar to Kalyan station, Nirmala Sitharaman Office wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): «Smt @nsitharaman was received by Shri @KapilPatil_, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, upon her arrival at the Kalyan Railway Station.»
The photos show her interacting with fellow passengers, engaging in friendly conversations. This move has been met with mixed reactions from the public.
While some praised her for trying to understand the challenges faced by commuters, others questioned the timing of the visit, considering the ongoing issues of overcrowding and infrastructure problems plaguing the suburban railway network.
«If If ONLY train can have so much space while traveling. Let her board ladies compartment,» a user said.
