Heavy rainfall flooded several areas of Chennai, leading to the release of 200 cubic feet of excess water from Chembarambakkam Lake, the city's main drinking water source, at 10 am. This has prompted a flood warning for low-lying regions and six villages along the Adyar River.
Kanchipuram district has witnessed varying degrees of rainfall over the past ten days due to weather changes and a low depression.
The district administration has issued flood alerts for people residing in low-lying areas along the Adyar River, specifically in Sirukalathur, Kavanur, Kunradthur, Wayampedu, Tiruneermalai, and Adyar River near Chembarambakkam Lake.
Chembarambakkam Lake, situated in the Kunradthur area of Kanchipuram district, serves as the primary water source for Chennai. Presently, the lake's water level is at 22.29 feet out of its 24-foot capacity.
The lake has a total capacity of 3.645 TMC, with a current water reserve of 3.195 TMC. The inflow is 452 cubic feet, and 163 cubic feet are being released.
