Narendra Modi, who held meetings with NDA MPs on Monday as a gearing-up exercise for the 2024 general polls, asked them to focus on local issues, stay connected with the people and and bring the disgruntled leaders to the party-fold, sources said. Attacking the newly-formed opposition alliance (INDIA), Modi said changing outfits will not change its character. Besides the construction of the Ram Temple and abrogation of Article 370, the PM asked the MPs to keep the electorate aware of the many developmental works .
Modi also told the MPs the BJP always made sacrifices to keep the NDA united and cited the case of Bihar where despite having more MPs, the party preferred JDU leader Nitish Kumar to become CM. The presence of Varun Gandhi, whose statements in the past have not been in line with that of the party's, in the meeting was keenly noticed in BJP circles. At two different meetings of the BJP-led NDA MPs, party president JP Nadda met more than 80 MPs from several regions of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand.
At the first meeting, the PM met MPs from western Uttar Pradesh, Braj and Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. Nadda and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were present at the meeting which was held at Maharashtra Sadan here. The first meeting was coordinated and hosted by Union ministers Sanjeev Balyan and BL Verma.
