LinkedIn, one of the most visited sites for job-hunting and building professional networks has apparently turned into a hub for dating!
n an interview with Business Insider India, Dustin Kidd, a professor of sociology at Temple University, explained why LinkedIn has become a hotspot for those looking for romance.
Kidd claimed that many people are getting disillusioned with traditional dating apps such as Tinder and PlentyOfFish. Citing a Pew survey from 2023, which revealed that 64 per cent of men felt discouraged due to no response. Moreover, various less than perfect (and even less than-safe) encounters on dating apps have left many flurrying to alternative routes to romance.
Discussing in-depth what has caused people to turn their back on dating apps, Kidd said that some users may use duplicitous means to snag a date such as cat-fishing (showcasing old/outdated pictures or ultra-flattering images that may not match what the person looks like in real life) have having such shady encounters have left many feeling skeptical with finding love on such sites.
In comparison, LinkedIn, which is a highly trusted professional site, has verified profiles, with in-depth career histories as well as professional references and connections. This creates the possibility of having a more credible dating prospect.
In 2023, a British social media influencer based in Singapore hit headlines after she revealed in TikTok that she used LinkedIn to find “A-grade men,” with good career prospects such as doctors, lawyers, and finance professionals.
