Dmitry Medvedev said that the US believed it had won the cold war but in reality, had failed to do so. Further, he said that the US is now one step away from losing it completely. In the past, he has threatened Russia’s opponents that the county will use its nuclear arsenal. He was largely seen as liberal in the western circles in comparison to President Vladimir Putin, but his stance changed after the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war. He is presently the deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council. This has been reported by the Business Insider.
It has been reported that he made these comments while speaking at the 12th International Legal Forum in the city of St Petersburg on June 27. He used strong language against the US and accused it of creating a war like situation. He added that it was completely wrong to suggest that the US had won the cold war. It is believed that the cold war came to end with the US victory after the former USSR disintegrated in 1991.
The former Russian President who served from 2008-2012 was considered to be liberal as compared to this predecessor who continues to have the image of a hardliner. All this changed in 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine. Analysts believe that Medvedev may be trying to win Putin’s favor.
Most recently, he commented that the western world will be targeted by nuclear weapons if NATO forces were ever sent to Ukraine. He added that it will be a global catastrophe and no one will be able to hide in Capitol Hill,
