G20 Summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that a consensus declaration had been adopted, indicating that negotiators had resolved significant differences over the wording regarding the war in Ukraine.
Calling the New DelhiDeclaration «historical and path breaking,» G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant onFriday said that India got the «100 per cent» consensus on alldevelopmental and geo-political issues focussing on Strong, Sustainable, Balanced, and Inclusive Growth Accelerating Progress on SustainableDevelopment Goals.
Here are excerpts from the declaration:
UKRAINE:
- All states are urged to act in a manner consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter in its entirety concerning the war in Ukraine.
- States are called upon to refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity, sovereignty, or political independence of any state in the context of the war in Ukraine.
- The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine is considered inadmissible.
- While acknowledging different views and assessments of the Ukraine crisis, peaceful resolution of conflicts, efforts to address crises, diplomacy, and dialogue are deemed critical.
- The declaration emphasizes that the current era should not be defined by war.
GRAIN/FOOD/ENERGY SECURITY:
- A call is made on Russia and Ukraine to ensure immediate and unimpeded deliveries of grain, foodstuffs, and fertilizers/inputs from Russia and Ukraine.
- The importance of sustaining food and energy security is highlighted, with a call for the cessation of military destruction or other attacks on relevant infrastructure.
- Concerns about potential high levels of volatility in food and energy markets are noted.
