On the social media platform, Donne shared a collage of herself and wrote, «One of my favorite children’s books asked, 'How did it get so late so soon?'.»
She stated that she had been asking this question to herself «over and over again» while coming to the decision to announce her retirement from professional basketball.
For Donne, it was among the «hardest parts» in her career to be able to say this out loud to herself. She mentioned that her body «seemed to make this decision before my mind accepted it but I now truly know this is the right thing for me at the right time.»

In her post, the 35-year-old thanked her family and all the «incredible» teammates, friends, staff as well as «most importantly the amazing fans,» who have accompanied her on this inspiring journey.
