Most of the affected flights were bound for Delhi. Leh typically experiences 15-16 aircraft arrivals and departures daily. On Saturday, two flights were canceled, followed by four on Sunday, and six on Monday.
“This is probably the first time that airline flights have been cancelled because of high temperatures. Last year, the temperature was not so high as to affect flights,” an official from Leh airport told the Times of India, requesting anonymity.
Meanwhile, official data revealed that Indian airlines witnessed 427 incidents of technical faults in their planes this year till July 19. During the period from January 2024 till July 19, as many as 268 flights of scheduled passenger airlines were cancelled, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol told Rajya Sabha on Monday.
IndiGo reported 46 technical faults during this year, while Alliance Air recorded 51 incidents. SpiceJet and Vistara had 23 and 44 such incidents, respectively. Air India faced the highest number, with Fleet A (Airbus planes) encountering 152 incidents and Fleet B (Boeing aircraft) 101 incidents.
