Cricket enthusiasts all over the world are waiting with bated breath for the first match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which commences today.
Tech giant Google, commemorated this event with an animated doodle. The cartoon showcases two adorable ducks marching between the wickets, bats in their hand. On clicking the doodle, you will be directed towards the tournament schedule.
India is hosting the quadrennial (once every four years) flagship tournament. The first match will take place between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad at 2:00 pm today.
Ten national squads would compete for the trophy.
The Google description reads, “45 matches will be played in the group stage, with each team set to face all the others once. This year, teams from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka will be participating. Only four teams will progress to the knockout stage, which consists of two semi-final matches and one cup final in Ahmedabad. The tournament will be played all across India, at stadiums in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Dharamsala and Pune.”
As per reports, the government authorities are beefing up the security. About 3,500 police officers will be stationed at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
