Tauru. Authorities claimed that specific residents were implicated in the communal turmoil of July 31. On Friday afternoon, bulldozers dismantled five houses near a temple in Nalhar.
This area had been the focal point of the July 31 clash during a religious procession. Police reported that 14 youths from this community were engaged in pelting stones.Government's stance During a press briefing in Chandigarh, PTI reported that State Home Minister Anil Vij stated unequivocally that all individuals implicated in the clashes would face consequences. He also added, «Even bulldozers have been employed as a measure for resolution.» As bulldozers reached the slum cluster, the pretext for the demolition drive was the encroachment of land owned by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).
According to residents of the Tauru slum, the demolitions commenced around 3 pm on Thursday. Some of them claimed to have resided there for up to a decade without receiving any prior notice.Residents respond amidst chaos To establish their nationality, certain individuals in the cluster presented their Aadhaar and PAN cards as evidence, particularly since a portion of the media and some individuals had labelled them as unauthorised Bangladeshi residents in India. This was a concern given that many inhabitants in the slum cluster hailed from West Bengal and Assam.
A resident of the slum, Gulzar Alam said, “We are being tortured just because we are from the minority community. Why would we be involved in pelting stones or spreading hate through videos?
