Atishi, visibly shaken, responded to Bidhuri's comments by defending her father.
«I want to tell Ramesh Bidhuri that my father has been a teacher throughout his life. He has taught thousands of children from poor and lower-middle-class families. Today, he is 80 years old and in fragile health—he cannot even walk without help. He has resorted to abusing an elderly man. I never thought politics in this country could fall so low,» Atishi said.
The controversy began when Bidhuri, who is the BJP candidate from Kalkaji Assembly, made a statement accusing Atishi of altering her identity for political gain.
«Atishi, who was Marlena, is now Singh. She has even changed her father. This reflects the character of the Aam Aadmi Party,» Bidhuri remarked during his speech.
