Rema and Burna Boy emerged as the top winners at the Headies Awards 2023, held on Sunday, September 3, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta. The annual show honours Pan-African and Afrobeats talent.
Rema clinched three awards, securing the titles for Best Male Artist, Digital Artiste of the Year, and African Artiste of the Year.
Selena Gomez, in collaboration with Rema on the global hit «Calm Down,» earned the International Artiste of the Year title, while Director K, who directed the music video for the «Calm Down» remix, claimed the Best Music Video award.
Burna Boy has scored victories in Song of the Year for «Last Last,» Afrobeats Single of the Year and Best R&B Single for «For My Hand,» featuring Ed Sheeran.
Notably, three artists, namely Odumodublvck, Asake, and Victony & Tempoe, each secured two awards. The eligibility period for the awards spanned from January 2022 to March 2023.
Actor and host Terrence J and Nigerian actor Osas Ighodaro co-hosted the event, which was livestreamed on YouTube (U.S.) and the HipTV (Africa) Network.
The competition for the Rookie of the Year award featured Bayanni, Khaid, Guchi, Bloody Civilian, Odumodublvck and Eltee Skhillz.
Odumodublvck emerged as the winner.
Sean «Love» Combs was honored with the International Artiste Recognition Award, although he was not present at the event. Organizers stated that his plaque would be delivered to him.
The Headies Awards, originally known as the Hip Hop World Awards, were established in 2006 by Nigeria's Hip Hop World Magazine to recognize outstanding achievements in the country's music industry.
This marked the second consecutive year that the awards show was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, having taken place
