Heavy rain hits Delhi-NCR, waterlogging adds to traffic woes; IMD issues orange alert for national capital
traffic disruptions. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the next 24 hours, advising residents to «be prepared» for severe weather. This alert warns of possible disruptions in transport, including rail, road, and air travel, as well as potential power outages.
The meteorological department forecasts light to heavy rain continuing in Delhi, with cloudy skies expected on Friday. The maximum temperature will be around 31°C, and the minimum will hover around 21°C. Winds are expected to blow at 25 to 35 km/h.
While the rainfall will continue, it is expected to get lighter by the weekend. No rain is forecast from September 15-17, with only light rain expected on September 18.
Delhi Rain: Traffic and Temperature Disruptions
The intense rainfall on Thursday caused extensive traffic congestion across Delhi. Areas including Janpath Road, India Gate, Kalindi Kunj, Dwarka, Connaught Place, RK Puram, Safdarjung, Uttam Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, East of Kailash, Rohini, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, and Noida were notably affected. Major roads like Old Pankha Road and Najafgarh Road, along with several flyovers, were heavily congested.
The Safdarjung Weather Centre recorded a high of 27.9°C, six degrees below the normal high, and a minimum of 23.1°C, three degrees lower than usual. Humidity levels fluctuated between 87% and 100%.
