In China, it is the seasonal influenza, which is the most common and is coming up in all the testing and is increasing, the international health agency said.
Citing data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, WHO epidemiologist Margaret Harris said the pathogens causing infections in China are «known ones», and they include the seasonal influenza virus, the respiratory syncytial virus, also known as RSV, and the human HMPV, as well as SARS CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
According to her, Chinese authorities have reported that hospital utilisation is currently lower than this time last year and that there have been no emergency declarations regarding HMPV.
Reiterating that the HMPV is a common virus that circulates in winters and spring, Harris said though there has been a rise in a number of common respiratory infections in the country, it is «entirely expected» during winter.
