Navdeep, a 23-year-old from Haryana, didn’t have the best start in the competition, with his first throw being a foul. However, he bounced back on his second attempt with a solid throw of 46.39 metres, which positioned him in second place. He then delivered a stellar third throw of 47.32 metres, setting a new Paralympic record and taking the lead temporarily.
Iran’s Beit Sayah Sadegh momentarily outdid Navdeep with a throw of 47.64 metres in his fifth attempt, seemingly clinching the gold medal. However, after the competition, Sadegh was disqualified for displaying an objectionable flag during the event, an act prohibited by the International Paralympic Committee rules. This violation cost him the medal and upgraded Navdeep’s silver to gold.
