Air India from the government in January last year, Tata Group has put in place various measures to turn around the fortunes of the loss-making carrier, including placing the largest order for 470 planes and expanding international operations. Tata Group has four airlines — Air India, Air India Express, AIX Connect and Vistara, which is a joint venture with Singapore Airlines.
The group is in the process of merging Air India Express and AIX Connect as well as Vistara with Air India. Air India, which was burning taxpayer's money with piling losses and debt, is now on a multi-stage transformation roadmap towards becoming a «world class global airline with an Indian heart.» The flag carrier is expanding its fleet and network, revamping its customer proposition, and improving reliability in operations Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has described the revival of Air India as not a T20 match but a Test match.
