Tech Star Shahrukh recently took to social media to share a harrowing experience he and his wife encountered during a visit to Jama Masjid for Ramadan iftar. In a detailed post, he recounted the successful recovery of their lost smartphones, highlighting the crucial role of technological safeguards in the process.
Upon leaving the mosque, Shahrukh and his wife discovered that two out of the three smartphones they were carrying—a coveted Apple iPhone 13 and a Xiaomi Civi 2—had been stolen from their bag. Despite being aware of previous theft incidents in the area, Shahrukh attempted to seek help from bystanders.
Fortunately, the Xiaomi Civi 2, equipped with a «Shutdown Confirmation» feature, remained powered on despite the theft. This feature, which requires a password for device shutdown, proved instrumental in their recovery efforts.
Using the «Find My Device» function on the Xiaomi website, Shahrukh was able to pinpoint the location of the missing phone. The audible ringing of the device led to its eventual recovery near Gate No 2 of Jama Masjid.
Shahrukh's ordeal underscores several key security measures for smartphone users. Firstly, he emphasizes the importance of keeping the SIM card intact to aid in recovery. Secondly, he suggests avoiding carrying expensive electronics in crowded environments, recommending a more secure alternative such as a chest bag. Lastly, he advocates for enabling features like «Shutdown Confirmation» for an added layer of security.
