Ian Pepperell, renowned for his portrayal of Roy Tucker in The Archers, passed away at 53, according to the BBC. Having portrayed the hotelier in the BBC Radio 4 drama for 22 years, he succumbed to a prolonged illness last Friday.
Jeremy Howe, the program's editor, hailed him as 'the perfect Archers actor,' excelling in both comedy and emotional roles.
Throughout his professional journey, he engaged in various theatrical productions and made a brief appearance on the BBC soap opera EastEnders.
Beyond his acting endeavors, Pepperell managed The Star Inn, a pub in the town of Ringwood bordering the New Forest, alongside his wife Nikki for the past two years.
In a poignant message shared on her Facebook page on Friday, Nikki expressed, «It is with the heaviest of hearts that I must share Ian's peaceful departure from this world, just as he, and those closest to him, anticipated.’

Following news of his death, Mr. Howe, who supervised the actor's time on The Archers, remarked that he was among the 'very best radio actors.'
He mentioned that Ian was the perfect Archers actor, expressing his love for being part of an ensemble, relishing the camaraderie and gossip of the Green Room, and possessing a seemingly effortlessly fine-tuned vocal technique.
He noted, “Like all the very best radio actors, he could think on his feet and change the way he played a scene in the blink of an eye.”
