Kumari Selja questioned the election management of the leadership in the state polls. She said the party's defeat in the assembly election, despite a very favourable atmosphere, was yet another case of the party paying the price for «placing all eggs in one basket», an apparent reference to the leadership packing the candidate list with Bhupinder Singh Hooda campers, which led to talk of "Jat dominance".

Selja, an All India Congress Committee general secretary and a Gandhi family loyalist, called for introspection by the leadership. «The electoral atmosphere that existed in Haryana was clearly against the BJP and in favour of the Congress. The people of Haryana were really fed up with the BJP's rule for the past 10 years, Yet, the Congress has lost the election. I am shocked and disappointed. But I must also say that there is a need for the leadership to do introspection and fix responsibility for the defeat.»

She further said, «All of us, party leaders and workers, did the work delegated to us. But it is also a fact that the Congress in Haryana paid the price for placing all its eggs in one basket. Those who were in-charge of the election in the state must explain why they chose to place all the eggs in one basket and landed us in this situation.»
