IIT Guwahati has partnered with EduRade, a brand owned by RC HobbyTech Solutions Pvt. Ltd and incubated at IIT Guwahati Research Park, to start a Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO).
Spanning 18 acres and with the capability to fly nine medium-class drones simultaneously, the RPTO at IIT Guwahati is being touted as India’s largest.
The RPTO’s main objective is to promote drone technology in the country and meet rising demand for drone pilots. It also aligns with the vision of making India a global drone hub in line with the government's ‘Namo Drone Didi’ initiative.
To start with, the RPTO will introduce a DGCA-certified medium class drone pilot training course tailored to skill the youth in the Northeast and other regions. Students who complete the course will be awarded remote pilot certificates sanctioned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean, PRBR, at IIT Guwahati, said, “As we witness the rapid growth of the drone industry and the mounting demand for drone pilots, the Institute envisions extending drone education, entrepreneurial activity and manufacturing to every corner of India."
«Through this collaboration, our goal is to nurture a generation equipped with the skills and knowledge essential to excel in the realm of drone technology, thus driving forward progress and innovation in this dynamic field,” he said.
The RPTO will also cater to women from self-help groups engaged in agriculture, identified under the Namo Drone Didi Yojna.
