IIT Guwahati student arrested for alleged ISIS affiliation sentenced to 10 days police custody
IIT Guwahati who was arrested after in social media post claimed that he joined terror organization ISIS was on Sunday sent to 10 days police custody.
He is a student of Biotechnology at IIT Guwahati. A senior police who do not want to be named told ET, «Accused Touseef Ali Farooqui — a BTech student of IITG has been arrested u/s 120(B)/121(S)/123 IPC R/w Sec 10/13 UA(P) Act. He was produced before the Court which granted 10 days police custody.»
He said that further investigation is underway as of date and further round of questioning of suspects going on. " A flag of ISIS and some documents was found with him. "
Tauseef Ali Farooqui after joining the terrorist organization wrote an open letter on LinkedIn stating the reason for his decision.
Additional Superintendent of Special task force of Assam police Kalyan Pathak said on Saturday that look out was issued and search was made in airport. The boy was located in Hajo. The student is from New Delhi.
He said that police are questioning him." The student preferred to stay alone."
The head of ISIS in India, Haris Farooqi, who has been active since 2019, was arrested along with his associates on Wednesday by the Assam police. His associate Anurag Singh alias Rehan belongs to Panipat and converted to Islam while his wife is a Bangladeshi national. Farooqi was suspected to be hiding in Bangladesh and carried out radicalisation of gullible Indian youths.
