INDIA bloc leaders and its MPs staged a protest in the national capital on Friday against the suspension of 146 MPs during the just concluded winter session.
Many senior leaders of the INDIA bloc gathered at the Jantar Mantar here to launch the 'Save democracy' protest, and addressed the gathering denouncing the Modi government over the suspension of the opposition MPs which they said was part of the «undemocratic streak of the government».
Addressing the gathering, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge stressed the need for a united fight against the Modi regime.
«When all unite, Narendra Modi won't be able to do anything… The more you try to crush us, the more we will rise. We are fighting unitedly to save the country and democracy,» he said.
Meanwhile, in what is seen as the demonstration led by the Congress to show its keenness to work with its allies after bickering at the recent INDIA bloc meet, Rahul Gandhi on Friday called up JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and met NCP supreme Sharad Pawar here, signalling the eagerness to expedite the seat-sharing talks.
As part of pre-poll organisational overhaul, the Congress high command could soon reshuffle its AICC secretariat comprising the general secretaries and secretaries. The Bihar Cabinet may also undertake a reshuffle to accommodate the pending request of the Congress for a few more ministries in the Bihar Cabinet.
