cybersecurity threats from companies of Chinese origin or those linked to its political philosophy, US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) commissioner Brendan Carr told ET, pointing to New Delhi’s pre-emptive action against entities posing both commercial and security challenges to an increasingly digital economy.
In an exclusive interview, Carr, who is on his maiden India trip, said that India’s actions on the short-video platform TikTok and telecom equipment suppliers Huawei and ZTE have “set the gold standard in terms of appropriate and strong actions to deal with the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).”
The US could also follow India’s lead on the safety and security of devices and the authorisation process involved to ensure that only trusted devices are used in telecom networks.
India and the US should also stay aligned on the idea of an open and inclusive version of the internet as an alternative to China and its allied countries who have already formed a version of the “splinter net,” Carr said.
“Countries that are allied with China either are or there is a big risk of them continuing to engage in heavy censorship and having a closed Internet. We have to keep a watchful eye that data
