Indian government must revive its data centre policy to ensure that data of Indian citizens is stored locally, Akash Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm said.
The scale and speed of multilingual data generation in India which will fuel the AI revolution will grow exponentially. We request the government to expedite the updating of the 2020 draft of the Data Centre Policy so that Indian data remains within the geography, he said.
“Therefore, any company ready to set up AI and machine learning data centres should get all necessary incentives, including incentives for power consumption,” Ambani said. He was speaking in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inaugural session of the India Mobile Congress 2024 at Pragati Maidan, Delhi on Tuesday.
He highlighted that Jio is laying the groundwork for building national AI infrastructure.
“At Jio, we have begun our efforts to bring the benefits of AI to every Indian, just as we did with mobile broadband. We are committed to democratising AI by bring powerful AI models to every Indian at affordable prices,” Ambani said.
