India will play against the semi-final against the fourth-placed New Zealand on November 15 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, while South Africa and Australia will play against each other in the second semifinal on November 16 at historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The ICC has announced adjustments to the rules for the semi-final matches compared to the group stage. To account for rain interruptions, the semi-finals have a reserve day scheduled.
In the event of a disruption resulting in the abandonment of the semi-final match with no result at the end of the reserve day, the team with the higher position in the league stage will advance to the final. This gives India, unbeaten in group matches, an advantage if there is no result after the reserve day.
Furthermore, the semi-finals and final now have 120 minutes of extra time for completion on the scheduled day, compared to the 60 minutes allocated for normal group matches.
If weather conditions prevent the completion of the Super Over, the team advancing to the final will be the one with the higher position in the league stage.
As per the ICC playing rules for the World Cup 2023 semis and finals, the playing hours on the reserve day will be the same as on the scheduled day, including the extra time provision of 120 minutes. In case of interruptions on the scheduled day, umpires can use the extra time provision and may reduce the number of overs to achieve a result.
For a result to be achieved on the scheduled day, each team must bat for a minimum of 20 overs.
If this minimum is not reached, play will be abandoned for the day, and the reserve day will be used to complete the match. On the reserve day, play resumes from the point where the last ball was played on the
