Sensex hit its fresh record high of 65,300.35 in intraday trade while the Nifty also made a fresh peak of 19,345.10 during the session. Sensex finally closed 487 points, or 0.75 per cent, higher at 65,205.05 while the Nifty ended at 19,322.55, up 134 points, or 0.70 per cent.
Both the indices ended at their fresh closing highs. The BSE Midcap index also hit its record high of 28,938.71 before ending 0.30 per cent higher at 28,861.47. The BSE Smallcap index closed 0.56 per cent up at 32,786.31 after hitting an all-time high of 32,884.16 during the session.
The overall market capitalisation of the firms listed on BSE rose to ₹298.2 lakh crore from ₹296.5 lakh crore in the previous session, making investors richer by ₹1.7 lakh crore in a single session. ‘’Markets edged higher in continuation to the prevailing trend and gained over half a per cent. Upbeat global cues triggered a firm start and rotational buying across heavyweights kept the tone positive till the end. Most of the sectoral indices traded in line with the benchmark wherein energy, FMCG and metal were among the top gainers.
