Indian airlines are gearing up for an increased flight frequency as they prepare to operate 24,275 weekly domestic flights during the upcoming summer schedule, starting from March 31. This marks a nearly 6 percent surge compared to the corresponding period last year.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the number of weekly departures is set to rise by 2.30 percent compared to the ongoing winter schedule, where scheduled carriers are operating 23,732 flights.
Scheduled to run from March 31 to October 26, the summer schedule encompasses a total of 24,275 departures per week to and from 125 airports across the country. Notably, this includes several new airports proposed by the airlines, such as Azamgarh, Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Gondia, Jalgaon, Moradabad, and Pithoragarh.
The increase in flight operations reflects a positive outlook for the aviation sector as travel demand gradually rebounds. With more flights connecting various destinations, travelers can expect enhanced accessibility and convenience during the upcoming summer season.
