iPhone 15 Pro Max is the top-end variant of Apple’s latest flagship series. The phone is equipped with a unique camera system and features a light build. According to a Counterpoint Research report, the total bill of materials (BoM) cost to produce an 8GB+256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max is $37.7 or 8% higher than that for the 6GB+256GB iPhone 14 Pro Max launched last year.
“With an increase of $100 in the starting retail price, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to give Apple more profit as it has the highest gross margin in the iPhone 15 family, despite being the costliest model,” notes the report.

According to the research findings, the increased costs in the iPhone 15 Pro Max can be attributed to several key enhancements. Firstly, the adoption of TSMC’s advanced 3nm fabrication technology in the A17 Pro processor has resulted in a $30 cost increase compared to the A16 Bionic. This processor offers a 20% faster GPU performance and enables real-time 3D ray tracing for enhanced gaming experiences.
Secondly, the introduction of Apple’s first 5x telephoto camera, featuring a quadruple reflection prism supplied by Lante Optics, has raised the overall camera system cost by 34%.
Lastly, the adoption of a titanium alloy casing in the iPhone 15 Pro Max has reduced its weight by approximately 20 grams, making it the lightest Pro Max model, however, this material upgrade has led to an 18% higher cost than the casing in the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
