Pitch Perfect 4" remains uncertain even as fans have eagerly awaiting the return of their beloved acapella singing competition franchise to the big screen after a nearly six-year hiatus.
Universal's comedic take on the world of acapella, led by Anna Kendrick and Hailee Steinfeld in a successful trilogy, has earned a dedicated fanbase and generated over $565 million in worldwide box office revenue, according to Box Office Mojo.
The franchise's last appearance came in the form of the 2022 streaming TV spin-off, "Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin." However, the lukewarm reception of the third installment in 2017 (with a 28% Rotten Tomatoes rating) led to doubts about the future of the series in theaters.
Despite the extended silence from Universal regarding «Pitch Perfect 4,» fans shouldn't lose hope entirely. Hints and teases about a potential fourth movie have emerged since the third installment.
In 2018, Rebel Wilson, known for her role as "Fat Amy," sparked excitement among Pitch Perfect fans when she shared an image on her Twitter account featuring herself and fellow Bellas holding up four fingers, seemingly hinting at the development of «Pitch Perfect 4.»
During an October 2018 appearance on «Ellen,» Wilson addressed the speculation but couldn't confirm anything officially.
She did, however, mention her involvement in another musical film within the next 12 months:
“I can’t say anything officially. We just love each other, all us girls.
Definitely I’ll be filming another musical film in the next 12 months, I can say that. You’ll see me singing a bit more.”
Ultimately, the film she referred to was «Isn't it Romantic,» which featured musical moments but wasn't «Pitch Perfect 4.»
