Mayonnaise ban in Telangana: The government of Telangana has taken a significant step to protect public health by banning mayonnaise prepared from raw eggs in the state. This decision follows several alarming instances of food poisoning linked to the consumption of this popular condiment, as per news agency PTI.
On October 30, the Commissioner of Food Safety issued a notification prohibiting the production, storage, and sale of mayonnaise made from raw eggs for one year. This action comes in response to multiple complaints from the public and observations made during enforcement activities.
The Commissioner stated that mayonnaise made from raw eggs is suspected to be the cause of food poisoning in several incidents over the past few months. Notably, at least 10 cases of food poisoning linked to egg-based mayonnaise have been reported, prompting urgent action to safeguard consumers.
The ban was enacted under the authority granted by clause (a) of sub-section (2) of Section 30 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The decision was made in the interest of public health, as the government aims to prevent further incidents related to food safety.
