self-help groups and panchayat representatives to sustain the model.
The administration has declared 6,650 villages as 'ODF Plus Model' under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), which goes beyond constructing and use of toilets towards cleanliness by managing grey water and solid waste in each of the villages. The top three performers to achieve the 100% target of the 'ODF Plus Model' include Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman Diu, J&K and Sikkim.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign has become a 'Jan-Andolan' in J&K and this historic milestone underlines the administration's resolve of building dream villages with new potential, possibilities and full of self-confidence.
«The Swachh revolution across J&K is also creating new livelihood opportunities, generating more revenues and improving the quality of life,» said Sinha, during his participation in the Swachhata campaign while eading the cleanliness and de-weeding drive at Dal Lake.
«J&K achieved ODF Plus Model status on August 14 this year, when we uploaded pictures from each village on the official portal. After that we conducted extensive physical verification and inspection of the assets on the ground before announcing it,» said, Mandeep Kour, Commissioner Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
