National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah on Friday alleged that leaders in New Delhi 'hate' him, want to 'silence' him and 'keep conspiring' against him, as he represents the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
«This is a strange election. I knew that leaders in Delhi never liked me. But now I have realised that they hate me and they want to silence me,» said Abdullah, while addressing an election rally here.
Abdullah, while referring to his loss in the Lok Sabha polls from Baramulla against jailed Awami Ittehad Party leader Engineer Rashid, said, «A candidate who was behind bars (Engineer Rashid) filed the nomination against me. He recorded an audio clip and circulated it among the electorate… I thought maybe it was my bad luck. I did not see any conspiracy in it. But for the last 2 to 3 days, it seems like a conspiracy to me… daal main kuch kala hai… I don't understand in this situation how those behind bars file nominations only against me.»
Abdullah filed nominations from Ganderbal and Budgam constituencies in Kashmir and from both places nominations of jailed preacher Sarjan Barkati have been accepted. Barkati's nomination was rejected from Zainapora constituency of south Kashmir.
Abdullah said: «When I fight with New Delhi, I don't just for me and my family. I am fighting for the whole of J&K and BJP doesn't like that… This is why they keep conspiring against me… Why do these people from jail keep filing nominations against me?»
