MHA has ordered the ban under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Founded in 1998 by Shabir Ahmad Shah, a prominent separatist leader in Jammu and Kashmir, the JKDFP was a constituent of the separatist amalgam Hurriyat Conference.
