Jake Paul in his first professional fight in 19 years. Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson will return to the ring for his first sanctioned fight since 2005, facing YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a highly anticipated bout this Friday. The eight-round fight will take place at the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys in Texas, and will be streamed live on Netflix, which boasts over 280 million subscribers worldwide.
The Texas boxing regulators have approved the match with some adjustments. The bout will feature limited rounds, each lasting two minutes, and both fighters will wear heavier gloves, which are expected to reduce the impact of punches. Tyson, 58, who retired with a 50-6 record and 44 knockouts, will face 27-year-old Paul, who holds a 10-1 record with seven knockouts in his four years as a professional boxer. Tyson’s last official fight was 19 years ago when he lost to Kevin McBride.
Originally scheduled for July 20, the fight was postponed after Tyson was hospitalized for a stomach ulcer. Tyson, who previously fought Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match in 2020, said that experience made him believe he could compete at the highest level again. As fight week progressed, tensions escalated, culminating in Tyson slapping Paul during the final faceoff at Thursday’s weigh-in.
Reports suggest Paul is earning $40 million for the fight, while Tyson will receive between $20 million
