Jimmy Kimmel Live', CBS’ 'Late Show With Stephen Colbert' and NBC’s 'Tonight Show' Starring Jimmy Fallon and 'Late Night With Seth Meyers' will be aired on October 2. HBO’s 'Last Week Tonight' With John Oliver is most likely to return on October 1. Besides, HBO’s 'Real Time With Bill Maher' will return on Friday.
When the WGA's strike began on May 2, late night shows were among the first few programs to be shut down because they needed freshly written scripts for each night’s show.
'The Drew Barrymore Show', 'The Talk' and 'The Jennifer Hudson Show' may also return soon, but their dates are yet to be announced. NBC’s sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live' has not yet set a season premiere date.
The WGA has reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers though they have not yet signed a deal. SAG-AFTRA is still on strike, but talk shows are covered by a separate contract, called Network Code. It may allow the hosts to return. It is expected that the major network daily shows coordinate an exact time to return at the same time.
Besides their writing teams, the producers will have to contact the crew members so that they can begin the work immediately after they get the all-clear from the WGA.
Though the late night shows have been off the air since the beginning of the WGA strike, many of those weeknight strips have continued to operate with a skeleton staff. So, they have been working with non-writing executive producers, digital teams, production managers, and bookers. Besides, the time slots can be filled with shows with musicians, sports figures, politicians, reality stars, authors, celebrity chefs, and
