It will be the first time that both junior doctors and consultants will strike together. The British Medical Association has announced that the junior doctors will go on strike on September 20 with ‘Christmas Day’ levels of cover. It will be followed by strikes on September 21 and 22. On the other hand, consultants will strike on September 19 and 20 with similar ‘Christmas Day’ levels of cover.
So, there will be a total of four consecutive days of strike in government hospitals in Britain. But the problem of the patients won’t stop here. Both junior doctors and consultants will strike together on October 2, 3, and 4, with a ‘Christmas Day’ cover.
Talking to reporters, BMA junior doctor committee co-chairs Dr Rob Laurenson and Dr Vivek Trivedi said that with this strike the junior doctors want to send a clear message to the government that they are not going anywhere. He also said that though the junior doctors would go ahead with their industrial action, the prime minister still can consider their demands and give them credible offers. He warned that refusing to talk is not the way forward.
