BJP national general secretary and former Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya was a surprise choice for the Indore-1 seat as he has been more involved in national politics for the past few years. Expressing confidence in his party getting another term despite being in power for 18 years, he told ET in an interview that welfare schemes of the Centre and the state government will swing votes in BJP’s favour.
Q: You had moved out of Madhya Pradesh politics and your son was an MLA here. Now the party has brought you back in a surprise move. How have you taken this?
A: What we have learnt in BJP is that when the party takes a decision or gives you an order you accept it.
There are no ifs and buts. My contact with MP and Indore has been constant. I spend my Saturdays-Sundays in the state.
I have worked for the development of Indore. People here feel he is a hard-working person. Till now, I used to think of central leadership and plan for it.
But since my candidature was announced, I have started thinking and planning about Indore.
Q: You are being seen as a CM contender now. Earlier when you were a minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government, you were seen as number two at one point.
