Denzel Washington fans, a news to cheer about. Netflix will be coming up with a movie on the Carthaginian general and statesman Hannibal. Netflix has roped in the versatile Denzel Washington to play the lead.
The ending of the strikes by SAG-AFTRA and WGA has paved the way for several Hollywood projects that are in the pipeline.
The yet-to-be-titled movie will be directed by Antoine Fuqua.
Both Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua have worked together in several movies including Training Day and the Equalizer trilogy. The project will see Oscar nominee John Logan as the scriptwriter. Logan had earlier written the script for the Oscar-winning movies Gladiator, The Aviator, Hugo, and many others.
The movie will be produced by Fuqua, Washington, Erik Olsen, and Adam Goldworm. Netflix has struck a deal for this project in 2020. This will be the first partnership project.
For more than a decade, work on the Hannibal trilogy was going on with Vin Diesel playing the main character. Diesel till 2021 had been talking about, which never saw the light of the day. However, Diesel had expressed his wish that in the movie Denzel played Hannibal's father but the upcoming project will see Denzel playing Hannibal himself.
Except for Denzel, all other star casts are under the wrap.
Besides Hannibal, Denzel will be producing another period drama with Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2, which will start soon and is expected to be released during Thanksgiving 2024.
This will mark Denzel Washington's first major project with Netflix Original. The movie is still in the script-writing stage and Washington is still to finish his work on Gladiator 2. Earlier Denzel has produced a couple of original projects for Netflix.
