Keir Starmer, has paid heartfelt praise to his brother Nick, who died on Boxing Day aged 60 after a long illness from cancer. Starmer spoke in fond terms of Nick as «a lovely bloke» and one who faced the trials of life with “courage and good humour", and expressing gratitude to those who'd nursed him about to the end of his illness.

Nick Starmer had learning difficulties due to complications during his birth, facing a tough start in life. Despite being labeled “remedial” at school, he defied expectations and learned to read, later gaining a technical qualification. Though life was difficult for Nick, who struggled with long-term health issues, he remained strong, even when faced with job difficulties.
