HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and initiated discussions on implementing the 260-km railway line between Bengaluru and Sathyamangalam (Sathy) in Tamil Nadu.
Kumaraswamy, who met Vaishnaw in Delhi, mentioned that the project was sanctioned when his father, HD Deve Gowda was the Prime Minister in 1996.

Parts of villages on the route including the Malavalli assembly segment falls in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency that Kumaraswamy represents.
People of Channapatna, the constituency in Ramanagara district that Kumaraswamy had represented in the assembly, will benefit if the railway board takes up work on the project covering five districts in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Hejjala comes under Ramanagara district.
Industries & Infrastructure Minister MB Patil welcomed the discussions and urged the Centre to kickstart work on the project soon.
