Laurence Fishburne breaks silence on Matrix 4 absence and hopes for future return
Laurence Fishburne, best known for his iconic portrayal of Morpheus in The Matrix trilogy, has shared candid thoughts on why he was missing from The Matrix Resurrections. The 2021 sequel of the Matrix franchise excluded Fishburne during its release period, although he remained a prominent figure in previous films of the franchise. He described that the offer never reached him, even though he was ready to bring back Morpheus while waiting for the chance to return.

Fishburne appeared on The View to explain that he communicated his readiness to play Morpheus in The Matrix 4 but received no invitation to join the movie. He disclosed to the readers that he provided his availability. “The reports that I kept silent about returning are completely false. I kept myself available for the part they never rehired me for,” he shared.
The fourth film's release as a trilogy sequel brought back both main characters, Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, during the release almost twenty years after the original trilogy ended. The absence of Laurence Fishburne from the new movie remained a mystery to dedicated fans who expected his reunion with the original cast members.
