Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke play Amanda and Clay Sandford in Netflix's new movie "Leave the World Behind."
In the teaser trailer released on Monday, the Sandfords receive an unexpected midnight visit. Mahershala Ali, portraying G.H. Scott, says, «To understand the world, you must know its patterns and foresee the future.» Scott and his wife, Ruth (Myha’la Herrold), claim ownership of the Sandfords' rented home and seek shelter from an escalating cyberattack that plunges New York City into darkness.
The Sandfords, along with their teenage children, find themselves trapped in a collapsing world. «There's no going back to normal,» warns Scott, forcing the family to confront their grim reality.
Kevin Bacon plays Danny, a doomsday prophet, who adds, «Haven't you seen what's happening out there? We've all been deserted.» A deafening sonic boom heralds widespread destruction. The film, based on Rumaan Alam's novel, features Farrah Mackenzie and Charlie Evans in supporting roles.
«Leave the World Behind» will hit select theaters on November 22 before streaming on Netflix starting December 8.
