Lizzo has responded to the recent allegations made against her and her production company by three former dancers. In her statement posted on Instagram, Lizzo expressed how the past few days have been difficult and disappointing for her. She stated, «My work ethic, morals, and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized.» However, she also emphasized that she usually chooses not to respond to false allegations, but these recent claims are too outrageous to ignore. Lizzo addressed the allegations made against her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. (BGBT) and Shirlene Quigley, the captain of her dance team. The former dancers accused them of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment in a legal complaint filed on August 1. In her statement, Lizzo pointed out that the stories coming from the former employees have been sensationalized and that they have previously admitted to being told about their inappropriate and unprofessional behavior on tour. She reaffirmed her passion for her art and performances, stating that she takes them seriously, and her aim is always to put out the best work that represents herself and her fans. While Lizzo acknowledges that she sometimes has to make hard decisions, she emphasized that it has never been her intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable or undervalued as a part of the team. She asserted that she does not want to be perceived as a victim in this situation but wants to clarify that she is «not the villain.»
Lizzo emphasises that she does not want to be ‘looked at as a victim’“I am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days.
