Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has provided insights into the ongoing discussions about seat-sharing possibilities with Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal.
While confirming discussions, Ramesh talked about the shared goal of strengthening the opposition alliance, INDIA, against the BJP-led NDA ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
The alliance discussions between Congress and TMC have encountered challenges, especially after Mamata Banerjee's announcement that TMC would contest alone in West Bengal.
Despite occasional disagreements, Ramesh expressed respect for Mamata Banerjee as a prominent opposition leader.
«There are occasional flare-ups and heated exchanges during such discussions. But we respect Mamata Banerjee as one of our leading Opposition leaders,» Jairam Ramesh said.
In another development, seat sharing gets a green light in the INDIA bloc after days of discussions as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) arrive on consensus for Delhi, Goa, Gujarat and Haryana.
Congress general secretary and MP Mukul Wasnik on Saturday announced the parties' decision and said that the Arvind Kejriwal-led party will contest from four seats in Delhi namely New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and East Delhi.
Meanwhile, the Congress will fight form three seats- Chandni Chowk, North East and North West.
Wasnik also announced that from Gujarat, whic has 26 Lok Sabha seats, Kharge-led party will contest on 24. The AAP will have its candidates on two seats, which are Bharuch and
