LPG Cylinder Prices: India has cut LPG cylinder prices by a steep 100 rupees per cylinder, a move that will ease cost burden on households across the country in the world's most populous nation that is set to vote for the next government during the summer season.
«Today, on Women's Day, our Government has decided to reduce LPG cylinder prices by Rs. 100. This will significantly ease the financial burden on millions of households across the country, especially benefiting our Nari Shakti,» Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter.
By enhancing the affordability of cooking gas, the government also seeks to bolster the welfare of families and promote a healthier environment, Modi said, adding this move aligns with New Delhi's dedication to empowering women and guaranteeing their 'Ease of Living'.
This comes just a day after the government declared its decision to continue providing a subsidy of Rs 300 per LPG cylinder to economically weaker women under the Ujjwala Yojana for the upcoming fiscal year beginning April 1. In October last year, the government had increased the subsidy from Rs 200 per 14.2-kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year to Rs 300 per cylinder. This Rs 300 subsidy per cylinder was applicable for the current fiscal year, ending on March 31.
The government had also slashed cooking gas prices in August last year by Rs 200 per cylinder ahead of assembly elections in five states.
