Luigi Mangione who is aged 26 has been reportedly charged with the murder of Brian Thompson who was the CEO of UnitedHealthcare and was shot outside a Manhattan hotel during the early parts of this month, reported Daily Star.
According to Daily Star, Luigi Mangione was initially taken into custody on firearm charges after being recognized at a McDonald's and was later properly linked to the crime through forensic evidence which included a 3D-printed gun that matched shell casings found at the scene. The arrest of Luigi Mangione has eventually sparked an unusual social media phenomenon while many users expressed their huge admiration for him in spite of the serious allegations.

The mugshot of Luigi Mangione has gone extremely viral on renowned social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok where some users have referred to him as the ‘hot assassin’ and has called for his release solely based on his looks, asserted Daily Star. His social media following suddenly saw a surge from under 1,000 to over 27,000 very shortly after his arrest while leading to comments that trivialize the gravity of the situation.
At the same time, some fans even attempted to create a GoFundMe page for his legal defense, though, it was eventualy shut down by the platform for violating its terms regarding fundraising for violent crime defenses, noted Daily Star.
